New Leadership for a Better Atlanta

Sonya Russell-Ofchus is pleased to announce her candidacy for Atlanta City Council Post 2 At-Large.

Driven by the passion to serve the people!

I am a retired federal agent and now a successful small business owner. I was born in a small town south of Atlanta, GA. I was raised by a single mother of four children who decided to move us to a larger city with more opportunities. I attended Atlanta Public Schools from 6th – 12th grade graduating from Northside High School. I earned my Bachelors’ Degree from St. Leo University as I worked a fulltime job.

I worked as a police officer for the City of Atlanta for more than 10 years and as a federal agent for another 15 years. I have been married to my husband, Kevin Ofchus, for 24 years.  I have been a resident of two other states, and I can say without hesitation that Atlanta, Georgia, is the place for me. I made a commitment to becoming a public servant devoting my life to a career in law enforcement. As a police officer with the City of Atlanta, my tenure started as a field patrol officer and ended as an investigator working criminal investigations in the Special Investigations Unit.

I believe there is a way to rebuild the relationships and trust between community members and law enforcement.
